Hey Mon! How Many Jobs Ya Got?

If you were a teenager or young adult in the 90s you may remember the TV show In Living Color and specifically the skit “Hey Mon!” where a West Indian family jokes about having more than three jobs.

“Ya only got 3 jobs Mon…ya little lima bean!?!! Ya lazy!!”

Being blessed enough to grow up visiting (and loving) the beautiful island of Antigua every year for literally 30+ years I have to say that this is one of my all time favorite TV skits…

…And, it absolutely applies to all of us who are building a purposeful and profitable cannabis business.

Many of us in the cannabis industry are working more than one job and it’s really hard to stay the course when there is so much to do.

For example, I work in freelance production on TV commercials, I’m a business coach, a marketing strategist, a publicist AND a medical grower.  On any given day when I finish my office work I then go into the basement to hang out with my plants and do my “chores”.  Some days these chores take an hour; other days I may have to transplant, take clones or clean up and tie up my plants, all of which can take several hours.

To say that I work a lot is an understatement.  But you know what?  It’s cool because I have my eyes on the prize.

However, to be truthful it’s not always easy.

In fact, all of these jobs can be overwhelming, exhausting and downright shitty at times.

But, we gotta do what we gotta do!

So here are 5 ways to stay the course no matter how many jobs ya got Mon!

Tap into your WHY

As you probably know by now (insert broken record here) your big, juicy WHY is one of the most important foundations of your business and will absolutely help you stay the course when you’re overwhelmed, frustrated or exhausted.

Regardless of what your big, juicy WHY may be, tapping into what motivates and drives you will help you stay focused and committed to your dream while you’re working round the clock.

Create your vision and stick to it.

Remember how hope marketing never works?  Having the desire for your business to work vs. committing to making it work are very different.  When you are all in you will find a way to get your work done regardless of any obstacles.  Your commitment to your vision means that you won’t quit even when your friends and family are out having fun or your exhausted from all da work Mon!

Join masterminding and networking groups.

Hanging with, collaborating with and brainstorming with like-minded people is one of the best ways to create success and stay the course.  Often these groups can support you and help you stay accountable and motivated.  Peer-to-peer learning is one of the most powerful ways for business owners to learn and grow.

Learn everything you can about your business specifically and business in general.

Business acumen aka that gut feeling you get when things are right or wrong doesn’t happen from sheer luck, it happens through learning and practice.  It’s important to take the time to research and study anything and everything you can find that relates to your business and business in general.  Tap into that crazy thing called the Internet, take courses, hire a coach or find a mentor.

Podcasts and webinars are also a really great way to plug into the collective business wisdom around you.  Often when I’m feeling burned out on my To Do’s but not quite ready to hit the basement I will tune into a podcast by my favorite mentor or coach (take a bong hit or hit the pen) and just absorb.  It’s amazing how much one can soak up just by listening.

Remember the more you commit to learning the more motivated and successful you will be.

Develop execution goals and stick to them.

Taking small, measurable action steps each and every day in your business, even when it seems like you are not making any progress, will set the tone for success. It’s all about confidence and the willingness to stay the course.  Remember the more you try the more you will put out abundance energy.  And, in all honesty (let’s not sugar coat this-it’s really F**K’n hard) it comes down to habits.  If you make a habit of working on your business day-after-day, despite how really F**Kn hard it is, you will train your mind, body and spirit to create success.

Last-but-not least…

…Stay positive!  Like I say over and over again, success comes to those who work hard consistently.

And, trust me when I say that a positive attitude is a MUST.

Remember, you’ve got to do what you can until you can do what you want.
